New Requirements for 2016

The requirements for the Cognitive Sciences major have changed, effective Fall 2016. Students who matriculated prior to 2016 may graduate under either the new or the old requirements. There are two primary changes: • The number of Core areas is now 8 • Only six additional courses are required beyond the core Thus, 14 courses are required to complete the Cognitive Sciences major.

Research Opportunities in Cognitive Sciences

Students who would like the opportunity to engage in research in Cognitive Sciences can apply for the Honors Program or enroll in CSCI 390. Both the Honors Program and CSCI 390 allow students to conduct an independent research project under the guidance of Cognitive Sciences faculty.

Cognitive Sciences Degree Requirements

Students majoring in cognitive sciences must complete 8 core courses and 6 additional courses . Among the 6 additional courses, at least 3 and no more than 4 must be in a single area of concentration—linguistics, philosophy, psychology, or neuroscience. Note that these requirements are new for 2016. Students who matriculated prior to 2016 may still graduate under the old requirements (5 core, 7 additional).
